When I posted my first one, I wrote about the beautiful morning that I watched these two men digging for clams on the beach at Cape Rosier's Orr Cove. I haven't stopped wondering who my subjects are, and if I could somehow locate them so that I could give them a print in this series. Achieving this illusion was a challenge, but after a few wrong turns, I figured out how to interpret the water within the shadow and adjust all the values to work together. I loved the way the sunlight made interesting shapes and highlights on the buoys and how they complimented the flowers just a few inches below them. You often see these small boats along the Maine coast, crowding around docks, ready to transport fishermen and sailors to fishing boats and schooners out in the harbor. This oil painting was fun to create and it reminded me of my buoy paintings, with their colorful shapes and stripes all tumbled together. When I came upon this dock in Maine one summer, I liked how these boats looked all stacked up upon each other. It was hard to tell where they began and ended and the scale changed dramatically in a small space.
